tatiana ALFARO

Tatiana was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. Coming from Costa Rican and El Salvadorian parents, she was immersed in Latin music and culture from birth. Observing Tatiana’s natural inclination to music and movement, her parents put her in dance at the early age of 4 years old.

She began her training in ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop at the Ontario School of Ballet in Toronto. She trained extensively in the RAD and ADAPT syllabuses and began to compete in all forms in both Canada and the US. Throughout her dance journey she stayed connected to her Latin roots by connecting her training to the music and movements she was raised with, salsa, bachata, merengue, reggaeton.

In 2017 Tatiana began extensive training with the tap dance community in Toronto, travelling to train internationally and performing alongside professionals in the scene. She worked on the Toffan Rhythm Projects production team for the Toronto International Tap Dance Festival (2021) and performed in Dianne Montgomery’s “Her” a 30 minute commissioned piece for the TITDF. Tatiana’s passion for creation and community led her to begin co-hosting Conversation in March 2022, an open jam that offers an opportunity for both musicians and dancers to connect, create & collaborate.

Wanting to connect more deeply to her culture through music and movement, Tatiana joined Araguacu in February of 2022 and has invested herself fully in training, learning and growing alongside its community. In the last year she’s become dedicated to training substantially in both salsa and bachata under Kim and Geo’s mentorship, as well as from international artists. Tatiana’s passion is evident through her infectious energy whether it’s talking about the dance or on the dance floor. Tatiana leads with an open-mind and heart and is committed to being a life-long learner of the history, technique and foundations of the dance, while always being rooted in the essence and flavour of salsa and bachata!
