tatiana ALFARO

Tatiana was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. With Costa Rican and El Salvadorian parents, she was immersed in Latin music and culture from birth. Recognizing Tatiana’s natural inclination to music and movement, her parents enrolled her in dance at the age of 4.

Her training began in ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop at the Ontario School of Ballet in Toronto. Progressing extensively through the RAD and ADAPT syllabuses, she began competing across Canada and the US. Throughout her dance journey, she maintained a connection to her Latin roots by integrating her training with the music and movements she grew up with: salsa, bachata, merengue, and reggaeton.

In 2017, Tatiana began training in the tap dance community  in Toronto, travelling internationally for further education and performing alongside notable artists. Tatiana’s passion for creation and community prompted her co-hosting of "Conversation" in March 2022—a platform fostering connections, creativity, and collaboration for musicians and dancers. In 2022 she was an intern with the Toffan Rhythm Projects for the Toronto International Tap Dance Festival and showcased her talent in Dianne Montgomery’s commissioned piece, "Her," a 30-minute performance for the TITDF. In 2024 she was asked to return to the festival as a producer, leading advertising, marketing, and design teams of interns.

Seeking deeper cultural immersion through music and movement, Tatiana joined Araguacu in February 2022, dedicating herself to training and growth within its community. She focuses on substantial training in both salsa and bachata under the mentorship of Kim Ramos and Geovanny Ricardo, also commencing her teaching journey for Araguacu in 2023. Tatiana prioritizes teaching bachata with respect for Dominican culture, consistently acknowledging its roots to provide students with an enriching experience, emphasizing bachata as not just steps, but a feeling and lifestyle. Tatiana is the founder and organizer of a social latin dance event in Toronto - Bachatéame, where she ensures Latin culture is infused into the dance experience while promoting the essence of bachata.

Tatiana’s passion radiates through her infectious energy, whether discussing dance or captivating the dance floor. She leads with an open mind and heart, committed to lifelong learning of dance history, technique, and foundations, all while staying rooted in the essence and flavor of salsa and bachata.
